Name: The Society of the Cincinnati History Scholarship (The American History Scholarship)
Award Amount: Up to $5,000
Information and Eligibility:
The Society of the Cincinnati History Scholarship is awarded annually to high school students who demonstrate an exceptional understanding of American history and the founding principles of the United States. The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage deeper study of the American Revolution and the ideas that shaped early American government, citizenship, liberty, and constitutional values. The Society of the Cincinnati is the nation’s oldest patriotic organization, founded in 1783 by officers of the Continental Army to preserve and honor the memory of the heroes of the American Revolution. Its scholarship program continues this mission by supporting educational excellence and historical scholarship among young Americans.
Each year, eligible high school seniors compete by submitting a well-researched essay on a topic related to the American Revolution or the nation’s founding era. Essay prompts vary annually and are designed to encourage historical insight, analytical writing, and original thought. Finalists are chosen based on the depth of research, clarity of argument, historical accuracy, and overall writing quality. The winning student receives a monetary scholarship award which may be used toward college expenses such as tuition, fees, books, or required academic materials. Many state branches of The Society of the Cincinnati also sponsor their own history awards and scholarships, making the program accessible to a wide group of students nationwide.
