Tony & Linda Bonnici Broadcasters Scholarship

Name: Nevada Broadcasters Association Tony & Linda Bonnici Broadcasters Scholarship

Award Amount: Tuition support (up to full cost-per-credit for eligible students)

Information and Eligibility:
The Tony & Linda Bonnici Broadcasters Scholarship Fund is administered by the Nevada Broadcasters Foundation with support from the Nevada Broadcasters Association. The scholarship supports students in Nevada who are pursuing education in broadcasting, media production, or related fields at accredited two-year or four-year institutions in the state. The program aims to foster new talent in the broadcasting industry — including radio, television, digital media, production, and related technical and creative roles — by easing financial barriers and providing opportunities for practical training, internships, and industry entry.

Applicants must be accepted to or enrolled at a Nevada postsecondary institution and must declare a major or curriculum in broadcasting or related media disciplines (including broadcast journalism, engineering/technical media, digital content creation, production, media management, or related areas). Recipients receive tuition scholarships (paid directly to the institution) covering up to 15 credits per semester. Awards are renewable per semester as long as recipients maintain eligibility criteria. Scholars are often offered additional support like internship placement or mentoring through the Foundation’s network of industry professionals.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be accepted to or currently attending a Nevada postsecondary institution (community college or four-year college/university)
  • Be enrolled in a broadcasting or related media curriculum (radio, TV, digital media, broadcast journalism, production, engineering, etc.)
  • Be enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credits per semester) unless a senior needing fewer credits to graduate
  • Maintain at least a 2.7 GPA (cumulative) or equivalent, per scholarship guidelines
  • Submit a complete application including required essays, transcripts, and recommendation letters or video submission where required

Application Requirements:

  • Completed application form provided by the Nevada Broadcasters Foundation
  • Official high school or college transcript sent directly to the Foundation
  • A written essay or application essay describing interest in broadcasting and career objectives
  • Up to three letters of recommendation (not required for past recipients) or equivalent references
  • For current institutions: advisor or department head certification of major and enrollment in a broadcast/media program

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated commitment to a future career in broadcasting or media production
  • Quality and clarity of essay or personal statement regarding motivations, goals, and passion for media
  • Academic eligibility (GPA, enrollment status, course load) and standing
  • Completeness and timeliness of application materials
  • Previous industry experience or interest may be considered (production work, internships, community media, etc.)

Additional Details:

  • Scholarship covers tuition for up to 15 credits per semester, paid directly to the school
  • Recipients are encouraged to pursue internships or practical work placements facilitated by the Foundation’s industry partners
  • Funds support a wide range of broadcast-industry career paths including on-air talent, production, technical operations, engineering, social media, sales, and digital media roles
  • Recipients may re-apply each semester (if maintaining eligibility) for scholarship renewal

Deadline: April each year (check current cycle date on NVBF website)
