Overview:
The Underrepresented Students in Medicine Scholarship aims to support medical students from racial and ethnic groups that are underrepresented in the medical profession. By providing financial assistance, the American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA) seeks to minimize health disparities and promote diversity within the medical community. This scholarship reflects AMWA’s commitment to fostering leadership among women and minorities in medicine.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Must be a current AMWA medical student member.
• Enrolled in an accredited medical school.
• Identify as a member of a racial or ethnic group underrepresented in medicine, as defined by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).

Application Requirements:

• Completed scholarship application form.
• Essay responses addressing specific prompts related to diversity and inclusion in medicine.
• Financial information demonstrating need.
• One letter of recommendation from a faculty member or mentor familiar with the applicant’s commitment to diversity and leadership in medicine.

Application Timeline:

• Application Period: July 1st – September 1st annually.
• Submission Deadline: September 1st.
• Award Notification: Recipients are notified after the review process and recognized during the AMWA Annual Meeting.
