The Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts (VASWCD) offers four $2,000 scholarships annually to Virginia residents who are high school seniors or college freshmen. These scholarships are intended for students pursuing degrees in natural resource conservation or environmental studies. The scholarships aim to support students who have a passion for preserving Virginia’s natural resources and promoting sustainable environmental practices.

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• Be a high school senior or a college freshman enrolled in an accredited program in natural resource conservation, environmental science, or a related field.
• Have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
• Demonstrate a strong commitment to conservation efforts and environmental stewardship through extracurricular activities, volunteer work, or other relevant experiences.
• Be a resident of Virginia.
• Submit a completed application form to the local Soil & Water Conservation District (SWCD) in their area of residence.

The application process involves submitting a completed application form, which can be obtained from the local SWCD, along with a personal statement, academic transcripts, and letters of recommendation from teachers or community leaders who can speak to the applicant’s involvement in conservation activities.

The scholarship funds are awarded directly to the recipients’ institutions to be applied toward tuition, books, or other related academic expenses.
