Information and Eligibility:
The Vegetarian Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group (VN DPG) offers an annual research grant to support dietitians, dietetic technicians, or graduate-level dietetic students who conduct research focused on vegetarian or plant-based nutrition. Preference is given to members of the VN DPG. Applicants may be registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs), dietetic technicians (NDTRs), or dietetic students admitted to a graduate or doctoral program in nutrition, public health, public-health policy or a related field.
Eligibility criteria include:

• Membership/Association: Applicant must be a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and either a member of VN DPG (preferred) or a dietetic student pursuing credentials.
• Academic Level: Registered dietitians, dietetic technicians, or dietetic students enrolled in graduate/doctoral study in nutrition, public health or a related discipline.
• Research Focus: Research proposal must address vegetarian or plant-based nutrition topics and be feasible within the applicant’s training environment.

Application Requirements:

• Completed application form through the Academy Foundation’s portal for VN DPG research grants.
• Transcripts (official or unofficial) demonstrating current enrollment or credential status.
• Résumé or curriculum vitae outlining educational background, professional credentials, and scholarship or research experience.
• Research proposal including problem statement, method/design, timeline, budget, with mentor/sponsor endorsement. Applicants must commit to submit a mid-term and final research report, and to prepare either an article for “Vegetarian Nutrition Update” or present a poster/session at the Academy’s annual conference.

Selection Criteria:

• Quality and relevance of the proposed research design and its focus on vegetarian/plant-based nutrition.
• Applicant’s academic and professional readiness, including prior experience, mentorship, institutional support and capacity to complete the research.
• Alignment of the applicant’s goals with VN DPG’s mission, and feasibility of budget and timeline.

Additional Details:

• The VN DPG research fund was established following a settlement and is intended to support innovation in vegetarian nutrition research. Award amounts vary each year depending on endowment performance.
• Recipients must submit periodic progress reports and disseminate outcomes via publication or presentation. Mid-term and final reports are required within established timeframes.
