Name: Vermont Retail & Grocers Association (VRGA) Scholarship Program

Award Amount: $1,500 per recipient

Information and Eligibility:
The VRGA Scholarship Program, run by the Vermont Retail & Grocers Association, offers financial assistance to Vermont-affiliated students entering their first year of post-secondary education. The awards are fully funded by VRGA member businesses and are designed to support high-school seniors who either reside in Vermont or are tied to a company member of the VRGA. Applicants must be ready to begin their first academic year at an accredited two- or four-year institution in the United States.
Eligibility criteria include:

  • Residency/Affiliation: Applicant must be a Vermont resident **or** be affiliated with a Vermont-based VRGA member company.
  • Employment Connection: The applicant must be either the dependent of an employee or owner of a VRGA member company in Vermont, or the employee themselves (minimum 15 hours/week or 750 hours/year) with at least one year of continuous employment at that company.
  • Academic Level: High-school senior (or diploma holder) preparing to enter full-time study in a U.S.-accredited post-secondary program for the first time.

Application Requirements:

  • Submit the completed VRGA scholarship application form (fillable PDF or online version).
  • Submit a copy of the Student Aid Report (SAR) from the completed FAFSA and a copy of the college’s financial aid award letter.
  • Provide official or unofficial high-school transcripts.
  • Submit letters of recommendation (one from an employer or two from others if not employed) and a recent photo/headshot with signed photo‐release.

Selection Criteria:

  • Academic achievement as shown by GPA, test scores and transcripts.
  • Demonstrated financial need (for the need-based awards).
  • Affiliation with a VRGA-member business and readiness for the selected post-secondary program.

Additional Details:

  • Ten scholarships are awarded each year: three based on merit and seven based on financial need, each valued at $1,500.
  • Award funds are payable jointly to the student and the institution. Recipients are typically announced in early June following the April deadline.
