The VFW “Sport Clips Help A Hero” Scholarship provides financial support to service members and veterans, helping them achieve their educational goals without incurring excessive student loan debt. Scholarships are awarded up to $5,000 per qualified applicant and are limited to one per family per semester. Funds are paid directly to accredited schools and must be used by the end of the awarded semester.

Eligibility criteria include:

• Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
• Military Status: Must be retired, honorably discharged, on active duty, or a member of the National Guard or Reserve.
• Training Requirement: Must have completed Basic Training and follow-on training (e.g., Advanced Individual Training, technical school).
• Rank: Must currently hold or have separated with a military rank of E-5 or below.
• Financial Need: Must demonstrate financial need.
• Enrollment: Must be participating in, accepted to, or currently enrolled in a VA-approved program or school at an accredited post-secondary institution.

Deadline:

• Fall Semester: Applications accepted January 1 through April 30; awards distributed in August.
• Spring Semester: Applications accepted August 1 through November 15; awards distributed in January.
