Name: The Virtual Business Scholarship
Award Amount: $2,000
Information And Eligibility:
The Virtual Business Scholarship is an annual national scholarship program created by Knowledge Matters, the developer behind the widely used Virtual Business simulation software. Designed for high school students with a strong interest in business, entrepreneurship, marketing, management, or personal finance, this scholarship recognizes the next generation of innovators who excel academically and show enthusiasm for using technology to understand real-world business concepts. The award provides $2,000 to help the recipient pay for college tuition or other education-related expenses.
Virtual Business simulations—used in thousands of high schools nationwide—introduce students to hands-on decision-making in areas such as retail management, sports marketing, hospitality, entrepreneurship, personal finance, and financial literacy. Because the scholarship is tied closely to these simulations, the program seeks applicants who demonstrate genuine curiosity, enthusiasm, and talent within these subject areas. Students who have taken Virtual Business–related courses or have used the simulations in class are especially encouraged to apply, though usage is not strictly required.
To qualify, applicants must be current high school juniors or seniors attending a U.S. high school. A key requirement is that each student must be nominated by one of their high school teachers, allowing the selection committee to better understand the applicant’s academic strengths, classroom leadership, character, and demonstrated interest in business and financial technology. Applications typically include both a student submission and a brief nomination form from the recommending teacher.
All completed applications are reviewed by a national panel of independent judges—often educators, industry professionals, and experts familiar with business education. Judges evaluate applicants on academic performance, interest in business or personal finance, involvement in related extracurriculars, creativity, leadership qualities, and the applicant’s thoughtful explanation of how Virtual Business tools or business education have influenced their academic and career goals.
The Virtual Business Scholarship aims not only to reward achievement but also to encourage students to continue developing their skills in economics, finance, digital business tools, and applied technology as they move forward into college programs and future careers in the business world.
