The Wanda Munn Scholarship is an endowed award supported by theSociety of Women Engineers (SWE) and originally sponsored by the Eastern Washington Section to honor the legacy of Wanda Munn, a dedicated engineer, leader, and lifelong advocate for women in engineering. This scholarship is intended to support women who return to or continue their college education in engineering after a non-traditional start or break, recognizing the resilience and commitment required to pursue technical careers later in life. The program reflects SWE’s mission to advance women in engineering and technology through support, visibility, and financial assistance.

Eligible applicants are re-entry or non-traditional female students who have already completed at least two years of full-time equivalent college credits at an ABET-accredited institution, regardless of whether those credits were in engineering coursework. This acknowledges the diverse educational journeys that many women undertake when entering or re-entering rigorous academic programs in engineering and related fields. Applicants must plan to enroll or be enrolled in a full-time ABET-accredited engineering degree program at a college or university within the Northwestern United States.

This scholarship helps reduce financial barriers for students who balance academic goals with professional or personal responsibilities. The award amount is provided as a one-time scholarship that can be applied toward tuition, required fees, textbooks, or other essential academic expenses related to the recipient’s engineering degree. Eligibility Requirements:

• Must identify as female and be eligible for SWE scholarship programs.
• Must be a re-entry or non-traditional student returning to or continuing a college education.
• Must have completed a minimum of two years of full-time equivalent credits at an ABET-accredited institution, which may be in any discipline.
• Must plan to enroll or be enrolled full time in an ABET-accredited engineering program.
• Residence or college location must be in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, or Washington.

Application Requirements:

• Completed SWE scholarship application form through the SWE national portal.
• Official academic transcript demonstrating two years of equivalent college credit.
• Personal statement describing educational journey, engineering goals, and reasons for returning to or continuing education.
• Letters of recommendation, including at least one from an academic or engineering professional familiar with the applicant’s work.
• Résumé outlining academic, professional, or volunteer experiences.

Additional Details:

• The scholarship is awarded as a one-time grant and is not renewable.
