Warren A. Morrow Memorial Scholarship

Name: Warren A. Morrow Memorial Scholarship (via Iowa Credit Union Foundation)

Award Amount: Varies

  • High-school recipients — up to US $3,000 (first-place) / $2,000 / $1,500 / $1,000 depending on placement
  • Post-high-school recipients (college / vocational / trade / graduate) — $2,000

Information And Eligibility:
The Warren A. Morrow Memorial Scholarship is offered annually by the Iowa Credit Union Foundation (ICUF) to support Iowa credit-union members pursuing post-secondary education. The scholarship honors the legacy of Warren A. Morrow, reflecting the credit-union philosophy of “people helping people.” Awards are available to both graduating high school seniors and post-high-school students (undergraduate, vocational/trade, or graduate level) who are members in good standing of a participating Iowa credit union.

Eligible expenses typically include tuition, fees, and other college- or trade-school–related costs. The scholarship helps lessen the financial burden for credit-union members to further their education, while encouraging involvement in and understanding of the credit-union community.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicant must be a member in good standing, with an account in their own name, at a credit union that is a member or associate member of the Iowa Credit Union League.
  • For the high-school category: must be a graduating high school senior in Iowa planning to enroll full-time in an accredited 2- or 4-year college, vocational or trade school within one year of graduation.
  • For the post-high-school category: must be entering or continuing enrollment in an accredited undergraduate, vocational, or graduate program.
  • Only one entry per applicant per cycle.

Application Requirements:

  • Completed application form from Iowa Credit Union Foundation / authorized credit-union affiliate.
  • An original essay (500 words) on the prompt: “Share a financial lesson, event or experience that has influenced you or your family personally. If relevant, share how your credit union played a role. How will this experience impact your financial planning as you pursue higher education?”
  • Proof of membership (account in your own name at a qualifying Iowa credit union)
  • If enrolling in college/trade school: proof of acceptance or enrollment, or for continuing students – transcripts or current enrollment documentation (as required by the receiving credit union).

Selection Criteria:

  • Quality and originality of the essay — clarity, meaningful content, relevance to prompt, grammar and proper formatting.
  • Membership eligibility and good standing with a qualifying Iowa credit union.
  • Demonstrated commitment to education — by planning to enroll (for seniors) or continuing studies (for post-high-school applicants).

Additional Details:

  • Each year, multiple awards are given — both to high school seniors and to post-secondary students, reflecting varying amounts based on placement.
  • Funds may be used toward tuition, fees, books, and other education-related costs at accredited institutions.
  • Applications are typically submitted through the applicant’s credit union — many Iowa credit unions participate and publicize the scholarship to their members.

Deadline: Early February (e.g., February 5 or February 7 — specific date depends on the cycle)
