Wisconsin GEAR UP Scholarship

Name: Wisconsin GEAR UP Scholarship

Award Amount: Up to $3,501 per year

Information And Eligibility:
The Wisconsin GEAR UP Scholarship provides financial support to students who participated in the GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) initiative during high school. This scholarship is designed to help first-generation, low-income, and underserved students pursue higher education by reducing financial barriers and supporting their continued academic progress. Award amounts vary depending on the student’s successful completion of dual enrollment or micro-credential programs while in high school, making the scholarship particularly beneficial for students who took advantage of early college credit opportunities.

The scholarship can be used at eligible Wisconsin colleges, universities, and technical institutions. Recipients must enroll at least half-time and maintain satisfactory academic progress as determined by their school. The program aims to reward students who have been actively involved in GEAR UP programming, which often includes college readiness workshops, tutoring, mentoring, financial aid counseling, and exposure to postsecondary opportunities. The Wisconsin GEAR UP Scholarship encourages students to continue building on the foundation they established in high school and helps them transition smoothly into higher education.

This scholarship also serves as a bridge between high school participation in GEAR UP and future college success. By offering financial support, the program helps students focus on their academic goals rather than financial stress, increasing the likelihood of completing a degree. The scholarship is often combined with other federal, state, and institutional aid to create a comprehensive financial aid package.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must have participated in the GEAR UP program during high school.
  • Must enroll at least half-time in an eligible Wisconsin institution.
  • Must demonstrate financial need as determined by the institution’s financial aid office.
  • Must meet the institution’s satisfactory academic progress standards.

Application Requirements:

  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Submit FAFSA results to the institution’s financial aid office.
  • Provide high school transcripts reflecting participation in dual enrollment or micro-credential programs (if applicable).
  • Complete any additional forms required by the institution’s financial aid office.

Deadline: July 15 following high school graduation.
