Women in Public Finance Scholarship

Name: The Women in Public Finance Scholarship

Award Amount: $3,000

Information And Eligibility:
The Women in Public Finance (WPF) Scholarship is a highly respected, long-established award created to encourage young women to explore meaningful and influential careers in finance—particularly public finance, a field that plays a crucial role in supporting government operations, infrastructure, education, public health, and community development. Each year, WPF awards up to ten scholarships to exceptional high school women who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership ability, and a clear interest in the financial or public sectors.

This scholarship is designed for college-bound high school seniors who have already shown an early commitment to leadership through involvement in clubs, organizations, volunteer work, community engagement, or part-time employment. In addition to academic achievement and leadership potential, WPF specifically seeks applicants who are genuinely interested in pursuing a career connected to finance, law, public administration, policy, or the nonprofit sector. Public finance touches everything from issuing municipal bonds to funding major public projects, and the scholarship aims to introduce more young women to these impactful, often overlooked opportunities.

The program’s application process includes a detailed application form, short essay responses, and an unofficial high school transcript. Essays allow applicants to reflect on their goals, leadership experiences, interest in public finance, and how their future education will support their career paths. Scholars who receive this award often go on to study economics, accounting, public administration, political science, business, law, and other fields that intersect with financial stewardship and public service.

Women in Public Finance also offers networking benefits beyond the monetary award. Recipients may be invited to attend WPF events, conferences, and mentorship opportunities that connect them directly with accomplished women across the finance industry—bond analysts, municipal advisors, public sector CFOs, finance attorneys, government leaders, and nonprofit executives. For many recipients, this scholarship serves as an introduction into an influential and rewarding professional community.
