  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Education Level: Must be a graduate student currently enrolled in a NAAB-accredited architecture program.
  • Reapplication: Previous recipients may reapply in subsequent years if they continue to meet eligibility requirements.

Application Requirements:

  • Comprehensive Essay: A 1,200-word essay describing how the applicant’s studies, design philosophy, or projects explore the intersection of sustainability, resilience, wellness, and beauty. The essay should illustrate personal inspiration, professional goals, and the role of architecture in addressing modern challenges.
  • Professional Résumé: Detailing academic background, work experience, design achievements, leadership roles, and community involvement.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Two letters of reference from academic or professional mentors who can speak to the applicant’s design talent, innovation, and commitment to the principles of sustainability and human-centered architecture. Letters should be addressed to the “Selection Committee.”
  • Portfolio: 5–15 digital portfolio files that demonstrate design excellence, innovation, and environmental responsibility. Submissions should align with the American Institute of Architects’ (AIA) Design Excellence Framework.
