The Acorn Equality Fund Empowerment Scholarship aims to support students who have faced personal challenges, including those related to their gender identity, sexual orientation, or other social or familial hardships, and have demonstrated resilience and a commitment to overcoming these obstacles. This scholarship is open to high school seniors, undergraduate, and graduate students pursuing higher education while making significant contributions to their communities and the LGBTQ+ movement.

Eligibility criteria include:

• Residency: Must reside in downstate Illinois, excluding Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties.
• Enrollment Status: Open to students attending or planning to attend an accredited post-secondary institution.
• Resilience and Overcoming Challenges: Applicants must demonstrate personal resilience and the ability to overcome challenges, particularly those related to their identity or background.
• Community Impact: Students must have made meaningful contributions to their communities or the LGBTQ+ movement through advocacy, activism, or volunteerism.
• Application Materials: The application requires an essay, letters of recommendation, and academic transcripts.
