Award Amount: $2,500 to $5,000 per recipient

Information and Eligibility:
The AFCEA Educational Foundation offers the STEM Major Scholarship to support full-time undergraduate students in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) majors who demonstrate strong academic performance, leadership potential and interest in fields such as cybersecurity, communications, intelligence or homeland security. The scholarship is part of AFCEA’s broader mission of promoting innovation and national security through STEM education and supporting students who may contribute to those sectors.
Eligibility criteria include:

  • Academic Level: Applicant must be a full-time undergraduate student (typically a sophomore or junior) at an accredited U.S. college or university.
  • Field of Study: Majoring in a STEM discipline such as computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace, physics, mathematics or information technology—especially if aligned with AFCEA’s mission areas.
  • Citizenship: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
  • GPA Requirement: Typically a minimum GPA (e.g., 3.0 or higher) is required at the time of application.

Application Requirements:

  • Completed online application through AFCEA’s scholarship portal.
  • Official or unofficial transcript showing current grades and STEM major status.
  • Résumé or CV detailing academic achievements, leadership, internships or work experience in STEM fields.
  • Two letters of recommendation from faculty members or mentors familiar with the applicant’s major and abilities.

Selection Criteria:

  • Academic achievement in STEM coursework and potential for success in the major.
  • Demonstrated interest in STEM fields relevant to AFCEA’s mission (cybersecurity, intelligence, communications, etc.).
  • Leadership, extracurricular or community involvement in STEM-related activities or professional development.
  • Completeness and quality of application materials.
