Information and Eligibility:
The AFCEA War Veterans Scholarship, in partnership with the AFCEA NOVA chapter, is dedicated to providing academic support to U.S. military personnel, including active duty and honorably discharged veterans. This merit-based scholarship is designed to help military personnel and veterans who deployed abroad in support of Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) to further their education in STEM-related degree programs. The scholarship aims to assist recipients with tuition and course-related expenses at accredited four-year colleges or universities in the United States.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • U.S. Citizenship: Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
  • Enrollment Status: Must be enrolled as a sophomore or junior (freshman and senior students are not eligible). The scholarship is available for both part-time and full-time students in an eligible undergraduate degree program.
  • GPA: Applicants must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Field of Study: Must be majoring in a STEM-related field aligned with the mission of AFCEA. Eligible majors include:

  • Military Service: Must have served in an Overseas Contingency Operation from 2003 to present. Applicants are required to provide DD214 or current service paperwork showing OCO service (SSN should be omitted).
  • War Veteran Teacher Certification Program: Students actively pursuing a credential or licensure to teach STEM subjects at U.S. elementary, middle, or high schools are eligible, provided they have completed a Bachelor of Science degree.

Application Process
The application process includes submitting the following documents:

  • Completed Application: Applicants must fill out the online application form, including several short-answer questions.
  • Official Transcript: Submit current official transcripts reflecting all undergraduate-level study, issued by the school registrar.
  • Letters of Recommendation: At least two letters of recommendation from professors in the applicant’s field of study. If this is not possible, letters from commanding officers or employers in the related field will be accepted.
  • Military Service Documentation: Submit DD214 or current service paperwork showing OCO service (do not submit with SSN).
