Information and Eligibility:
The Alaska Safety Alliance (ASA) Training Scholarship supports Alaskans pursuing education and training that lead to certifications, credentials, or degrees in Alaska’s vital industries. In partnership with Alaska 529, ASA created this scholarship to strengthen the state’s workforce by helping residents gain the technical skills and qualifications needed for successful careers in fields such as oil and gas, mining, maritime, construction, and transportation. At its core, ASA’s mission is to build a highly trained workforce capable of staffing Alaska’s industries safely and competitively, now and in the future.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Residency: Must be an Alaska resident.
  • Field of Study: Must plan to enroll or be currently enrolled in a program leading to a certification, credential, or degree supporting a career in Alaska’s oil & gas, mining, maritime, transportation, construction, or related industries.
  • Program Location: Training program must be Alaska-based or, if unavailable in Alaska, an equivalent out-of-state program.
  • Award Frequency: Scholarship is a one-time award per program year; recipients may reapply annually for up to four awards total (maximum lifetime benefit of $5,000).
  • Funding Limits: Awards of up to $1,500 per year are paid directly to the educational or training institution. The number of awards depends on available funding.

Application Notes:

  • Applicants must demonstrate how their chosen program supports entry or advancement in Alaska’s targeted industries.
  • Previous awardees must submit an updated application showing progress in their educational or training program.
  • The scholarship review committee recommends recipients, but final award decisions rest solely with ASA.
