Information and Eligibility:
The Alaska State Fair Scholarship Program celebrates the creativity, community involvement, and dedication of Alaska’s students. Open to all Alaska junior and senior high school students planning to attend college or vocational school, the program encourages applicants to express their ideas through writing or creative projects that reflect the mission of the Fair and its impact on Alaska communities. Each year, several top students receive scholarship awards, and every applicant submitting a complete application receives two free admissions to the annual Alaska State Fair, held in Palmer, Alaska.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Residency: Must be an Alaska resident.
  • Education Level: Open to Alaska junior and senior high school students who plan to attend college or vocational school.

Application Requirements:

  • Cover letter explaining why the applicant is a strong candidate (include full contact information, school details, counselor name, and intended college or vocational school).
  • Extracurricular résumé listing interests, clubs, community service, and/or employment.
  • One letter of recommendation.
  • A recent photo (may be used for publicity purposes).
  • Written essay (1,000 words or less) or a creative project such as an audio, video, visual art piece, business plan, social media campaign, or similar submission.

Essay/Project Topics (choose one):

  • Interview a community elder or farmer and share their story through an essay or video.
  • Explore ways the Alaska State Fair can continue supporting Alaska’s growing number of young and female farmers.
  • Describe how the Fair can have a greater impact on your community or the state of Alaska.
  • Create a new event, activity, or contest for fairgoers that is free with admission and has minimal cost to the Fair.
  • Design how you would use a 12×12 booth space at the Fair to start a business or sell goods or services.
  • Explain your personal involvement with the Fair or how it has influenced your life.

All submissions become the property of the Alaska State Fair. Creative projects such as videos can be submitted via personal social media or video links (e.g., YouTube or Instagram). DVDs or physical media are not accepted. Application materials can be submitted online at alaskastatefair.org or mailed to:
