Information and Eligibility:
The Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Alaska Scholarship Program supports Alaskans pursuing education or training for careers in the construction industry and related fields. Administered by the AGC Workforce Development Committee, the program aims to strengthen Alaska’s construction workforce by helping students gain the skills needed for success in technical, trade, and professional roles. Scholarships are open to both trade school trainees and degree-seeking students pursuing programs in construction, engineering, architecture, or associated support professions such as accounting, safety, or human resources.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Residency: Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and an Alaska resident.
  • Career Path: Must plan to pursue a career in the construction industry or a related field, including engineering, architecture, design, construction management, safety, accounting, insurance, bonding, or human resources.
  • Education Level: Open to applicants pursuing either trade training or degree programs related to construction.
  • Application Materials: All documents must be submitted as PDFs through the online application portal.

Application Requirements:

  • One-page essay on career goals (maximum 500 words).
  • One-page personal essay describing hobbies, connection to the construction industry, work/school balance, family obligations, or related experiences (maximum 500 words).
  • Copy of recent transcripts (high school or college, whichever is most applicable).
  • Two letters of recommendation written within the last two years, preferably from teachers or employers.

Selection Criteria:

  • Career Goals: Based on quality and clarity of essays outlining commitment to a construction-related career.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Consideration of community involvement, employment history, leadership roles, and academic participation.
  • Recommendations: Strength and relevance of letters from individuals familiar with the applicant’s skills and character.
  • Academic Record: Review of most recent transcripts for academic progress and consistency.

  • Award Announcement: Recipients notified by May 1, 2025
