Award Amount:

  • Up to $4,000 per scholarship; up to 10 scholarships awarded annually.

Information and Eligibility:
The Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial Scholarship is awarded to master’s degree candidates in social work who have demonstrated a commitment to working with, or who have special affinity with, American Indian/Alaska Native and Hispanic/Latino populations, or in public and voluntary nonprofit agency settings. The scholarship honors Consuelo W. Gosnell, a social work pioneer dedicated to improving conditions for marginalized communities.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • NASW Membership: Must be a current member in good standing of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
  • Academic Enrollment: Applied to or accepted into an accredited Master of Social Work (MSW) program; payment of the award is contingent upon full admission into the program.
  • Academic Performance: Minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or above.
  • Commitment: Demonstrated dedication to working with American Indian/Alaska Native and Hispanic/Latino populations, or in public and voluntary nonprofit agency settings.

Application Requirements:

  • Completed application form available on the NASW Foundation website.
  • Biographical essay (two typed, double-spaced pages) addressing career goals, interests, and relevant work, volunteer, and school/field experience.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended.
  • Two letters of recommendation from professionals familiar with the applicant’s academic and/or professional capabilities.
  • Proof of NASW membership in good standing.

Application Timeline:

  • Application Deadline: February 26.
  • Notification of Awards: Typically in late spring or early summer.
  • Funding Disbursement: Award is disbursed in two installments at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters.

Additional Information:

  • Students enrolled in an MSW program for more than one year may reapply for part or all of a second year.
  • Recipients are expected to maintain active NASW membership throughout the award period.
