Award Amount:

• $1,500 awarded for the spring semester.

Overview:

The Dr. Maryan and James McCormick Leadership Endowed Scholarship honors the contributions of Chancellor James and Dr. Maryan McCormick. Established through a partnership between Students United and LeadMN, this scholarship provides financial support to students who demonstrate leadership in academics, extracurricular activities, and community service.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled in a Minnesota State institution.
• Demonstrate leadership in academics, extracurricular activities, and community service.
• Maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
• Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) students are ineligible for this scholarship.

Application Process:

• Complete and submit the online application by November 1 at 11:59 PM. The application is the same for both the LeadMN Leadership Scholarship and the McCormick Leadership Endowed Scholarship.
• Provide typed responses (300-750 words each) to the following essay questions:
  • What does leadership mean to you?
  • What leadership skills do you have, and how have you used them in your education, community, and employment?
  • What does a college education mean to you, and how will this scholarship help you succeed?
• Submit one letter of recommendation from a community, campus, or organization leader who can discuss your leadership skills.
• Provide an unofficial transcript from your current institution.
• Submit a leadership resume detailing your skills, how you’ve applied them, specific leadership roles you’ve held, and examples of improvements or promotions.

Deadline:

• Applications open on July 1 and close on November 1 at 11:59 PM for the spring semester.

Additional Information:

• Undergraduate students with a 3.0 GPA will automatically be considered for both the LeadMN Leadership Scholarship and the McCormick Leadership Endowed Scholarship upon application.
• Graduate students will be considered for the McCormick Leadership Endowed Scholarship and the Linda Olson Memorial Scholarship.
