Hope Scholarship For College

Name: The HOPE Scholarship for College (Helping Outstanding Pupils Educationally)

Award Amount: Varies

Information And Eligibility:
The HOPE Scholarship for College is one of Georgia’s most well-known merit-based scholarship programs, created to help academically successful students afford higher education. Unlike many financial aid programs, the HOPE Scholarship is not based on a student’s income or financial need—making it an excellent opportunity for Georgia residents who meet the academic qualifications.

To qualify, applicants must meet Georgia residency requirements and graduate high school with at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, as defined by the HOPE grade calculation. Continuing college students must also maintain a 3.0 GPA to remain eligible. The scholarship may be used at eligible public and private colleges and universities within the state of Georgia.

Award amounts vary by institution but typically include full tuition coverage at public colleges and universities, partial tuition support at private institutions, and access to additional benefits such as mandatory fee assistance and book allowances (when available). Students must meet all additional HOPE program requirements outlined by the Georgia Student Finance Commission.

This scholarship is entirely separate from the federal HOPE Tax Credit, which provides a credit to taxpayers with qualified educational expenses during the first two years of postsecondary education.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must meet Georgia residency requirements.
  • Must graduate high school with a minimum 3.0 HOPE-calculated GPA.
  • Must be enrolled in an eligible Georgia college or university.
  • Must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA in college for renewal.
  • Must meet all additional eligibility rules established by the HOPE Program.

Application Requirements:

  • Submit the Georgia HOPE Scholarship application via the GSFAPPS system or complete the FAFSA.
  • Provide transcripts for HOPE GPA verification.
  • Enroll in an eligible Georgia institution and maintain required academic standards.
