Eligibility Criteria:

  • Be a current student at one of the 33 Minnesota State colleges and universities (students attending private colleges or the University of Minnesota system are ineligible).
  • Maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  • Be an undergraduate or graduate student who demonstrates strong leadership skills and a commitment to serving others.
  • Postsecondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) students are ineligible.
  • LeadMN Governing Council Representatives and the LeadMN Cabinet are ineligible for this scholarship. LeadMN Governing Council Alternates are eligible.

Application Process:

  • Complete and submit the online application by the specified deadline.
  • Provide typed responses (300-750 words each) to the following essay questions:
    • What does leadership mean to you?
    • What leadership skills do you have, and how have you used them in your education, community, and employment?
    • What does a college education mean to you, and how will this scholarship help you succeed?
  • Submit one letter of recommendation from a community, campus, or organization leader who can discuss your leadership skills (one letter should be from a peer).
  • Provide a copy of your unofficial transcript from your current institution.
  • Submit a leadership resume outlining the details of specific leadership roles you have held, complete with titles and dates you held the position(s).

Deadlines:

  • For the fall semester: Applications open on January 1 and close on April 1 at 11:59 PM.
  • For the spring semester: Applications open on July 1 and close on November 1 at 11:59 PM.

  • Recipients are selected based on their leadership experience, commitment to community service, academic performance, and the quality of their application materials.
