Award Amount: $1,500 plus $600 allowance toward airfare, 2 nights hotel, and convention registration.

Information And Eligibility:
The Maynard F. Lipe Memorial Scholarship, offered by the American College of Chiropractic Orthopedists (ACCO), supports doctors of chiropractic (DC) enrolled in a post-doctoral Orthopedics or Neuromusculoskeletal program leading to Diplomate status or a Master’s degree. The scholarship honors Dr. F. Maynard Lipe, a pioneer in chiropractic orthopedics, for his contributions to advancing the field through education and ethical standards.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be an honorable DC enrolled in a CCE-approved Post-Graduate Orthopedics or Neuromusculoskeletal program leading to Diplomate status or a Master’s degree.
  • Must have a career objective to specialize in Chiropractic Orthopedics.

Application Process:

  • Submit a Letter of Intent to participate in the award selection process to the ACCO Scholarship Committee Chairperson, Dr. David Swensen (dswensen@endicott.edu), no later than November 30 annually.
  • Include the following with your Letter of Intent:
    • A letter of recommendation from the orthopedic course instructor or director of the program.
  • Submit a 1,500-2,500 word article on a subject relevant to chiropractic Orthopedics/Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine. The article must:
    • Focus on the complete chiropractic management of an orthopedically related clinical problem, from initial diagnosis to long-term management.
    • Be double-spaced on 8.5 x 11-inch paper.
  • Include a letter authorizing the ACCO to publish or edit the article as needed.
  • Final article submissions are due by December 31 annually.

Selection Process:

  • The scholarship recipient will be selected by a panel of four chiropractic Diplomates who are members of the ACCO in good standing.
  • Submissions are anonymized during the review process to ensure fairness.
  • The final decision is based on the excellence of the submitted work.
  • In the case of a tie, additional review by the Scholarship Committee Chairman and Executive Board will determine the winner. If funds allow, double scholarships may be awarded.

Additional Details:

  • The recipient will be announced at the annual ACCO Convention and is expected to attend to accept the award in person.
  • The winner will receive assistance in submitting their article for publication in a peer-reviewed journal, if desired.
  • The recipient’s conference fee will be waived, and they will receive a commemorative plaque during the awards presentation.
