Name: Most Valuable Student Scholarship – Elks National Foundation

Award Amount: $1,000 – $7,500 per year (renewable for up to four years); top-20 finalists receive $30,000 each for four-year awards

Information and Eligibility:
The Most Valuable Student Scholarship supports U.S. high school seniors who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and financial need. This national competition is open to all U.S. citizens planning to pursue a four-year bachelor’s degree at an accredited U.S. college or university. Applicants are assessed by scholarship committees at the lodge, district, state and national levels, culminating in selection of 500 recipients each year.
Eligibility criteria include:

  • Academic Level: Must be a current high school senior at the time of application (high school graduates are not eligible).
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen; permanent legal residents do not qualify.
  • Enrollment Plan: Must plan to enroll full-time (minimum 12 semester hours) in a four-year U.S. undergraduate program at an accredited college or university.

Application Requirements:

  • Completed online application form via the Elks National Foundation website.
  • Official or unofficial high school transcript showing academic performance.
  • Résumé or summary of extracurricular involvement, community service and leadership roles.
  • Statement of financial need and leadership potential.

Selection Criteria:

  • Academic achievement and scholarship potential.
  • Leadership in school, community or extracurricular activities.
  • Financial need as determined by the application.

Additional Details:

  • Each year the program awards 500 national scholarships—ranging from $1,000 to $7,500 per year, renewable for up to four years.
  • From those, the top 20 scholars are selected to receive the highest awards and attend a leadership weekend.
  • Applicants do *not* have to be related to an Elk member or affiliated with the organization.
