The NJREA Scholarship for Retired Educators’ Descendants is a special award designed to assist the descendants of retired New Jersey educators in furthering their education. This scholarship honors the legacy of New Jersey’s educators and is intended to support students who are the children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren of retired New Jersey public school educators. The scholarship seeks to recognize and reward the academic achievements of these students, while also honoring the contributions of their family members to the field of education.

Eligibility for the NJREA Scholarship for Retired Educators’ Descendants includes the following criteria:

• Family Connection: Applicants must be the children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren of retired New Jersey public school educators. Documentation of the family connection is required.
• Academic Excellence: Applicants must have a strong academic record with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
• Postsecondary Enrollment: The scholarship is available to students who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited college, university, or trade school.
• Community Involvement: While not mandatory, applicants who have demonstrated leadership and engagement in community service, extracurricular activities, or volunteer work may have a stronger application.
• Letters of Recommendation: Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation, one of which should come from a teacher or educator who is familiar with the applicant’s academic capabilities and character.

This one-time scholarship provides $1,000 to assist with tuition or other educational expenses. Although the scholarship is non-renewable, it provides crucial financial support to students entering higher education, particularly those who are carrying on the educational legacy of their family members.
