Award Amount: $10,000 every two years

Information and Eligibility:
The Patricia Price Browne Prize in Biomedical Ethics honors an individual who demonstrates the highest professional standards in medical or professional ethics—especially through leadership, advocacy or scholarship on complex ethical issues in healthcare. The prize was established in honor of Patricia Price Browne, an Oklahoma City community leader committed to women’s and children’s health. It is administered by the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine.
Eligibility criteria include:

  • Professional Status: Applicant must be a physician, nurse, research scientist or other professional active in healthcare ethics.
  • Citizenship/Residency: Applicant must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident.
  • Contribution to Ethics: Applicant must have made an outstanding contribution through service on ethics committees, policy advocacy, research, education or other means that advance ethical standards in healthcare.

Application Requirements:

  • Completed nomination form submitted via the University of Oklahoma’s prize portal.
  • Curriculum vitae of the nominee.
  • Statement of evidence justifying the nomination and describing the nominee’s ethical contributions and leadership.
  • Up to five letters of support (nominators’ or referees’ letters) addressed to the prize jury.

Selection Criteria:

  • Demonstrated excellence and leadership in addressing ethical issues in healthcare.
  • Innovation, sustained impact and alignment with the mission of the prize.
  • Clarity and depth of supporting materials (nomination statement and letters).

Additional Details:

  • The prize is awarded biennially (every two years). Recent recipients include recognized leaders in bioethics who delivered a lecture and engaged with students, faculty and the public during their visit to the University of Oklahoma.
  • As part of the award, the recipient is invited to give a formal lecture and participate in discussions on ethical issues with students, physicians-in-training, faculty and the community.
