Information and Eligibility:

The Law Student Writing Competition is open to law students who are currently enrolled in Virginia law schools, as well as students attending out-of-state law schools who are Virginia residents. The competition invites law students to submit articles focusing on health law. Submissions must be original, and they should demonstrate a strong understanding of health law issues, along with thoughtful legal analysis and well-supported arguments.

Articles submitted to the competition must adhere to the following requirements:

  • The article must focus on a health law issue, which may include topics such as public health law, medical ethics, healthcare policy, or other areas of law related to the healthcare industry.
  • The submission must not exceed 25 pages in length, including citations and references.
  • Entries must include the student’s name, contact details, and a signed statement of eligibility confirming that the submission meets the competition’s criteria.

Submissions will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • Originality: The article should offer fresh perspectives or new insights on health law topics.
  • Relevance: The topic should be timely and meaningful within the context of current issues in health law.
  • Quality of Research and Writing: Entries must be thoroughly researched, well-organized, and clearly written, following professional legal writing standards.
  • Clarity of Expression: The article should be clearly articulated and effectively communicate complex legal concepts to both legal and non-legal audiences.
