W.D. Farr Scholarship

Name: W.D. Farr Scholarship

Award Amount: $15,000 per recipient (two graduate scholarships awarded annually)

Information And Eligibility:
The W.D. Farr Scholarship is a prestigious graduate-level award administered by the National Cattlemen’s Foundation to honor the life, leadership, and lasting legacy of the late W.D. Farr of Greeley, Colorado. Established to recognize his extraordinary contributions to agriculture and the beef industry, the scholarship provides substantial financial support to graduate students who demonstrate a commitment to advancing agriculture, livestock production, and related fields.

W.D. Farr was a third-generation Coloradoan, pioneer rancher, statesman, and banker whose vision and leadership helped shape modern agricultural practices in the United States. Throughout his lifetime, Farr was deeply committed to improving agriculture, livestock systems, and water development. His innovative approach and dedication resulted in meaningful changes in farming and ranching methods that influenced producers nationwide. Following his passing in 2007 at the age of 97, the National Cattlemen’s Foundation established this scholarship to ensure that his legacy continues through the education and development of future industry leaders.

Each year, two $15,000 graduate scholarships are awarded to students pursuing advanced degrees that align with the mission of the beef and agricultural industries. The scholarship is designed to support individuals whose academic pursuits and professional goals reflect leadership, innovation, and a long-term commitment to strengthening agriculture. By investing in graduate education, the program helps foster research, policy development, and applied leadership that will shape the future of livestock production and agricultural sustainability.

The W.D. Farr Scholarship emphasizes more than academic achievement alone. Applicants are evaluated for their leadership potential, vision for the future of agriculture, and dedication to improving the beef industry and rural communities. Through this scholarship, the National Cattlemen’s Foundation seeks to identify individuals who will carry forward Farr’s values of service, integrity, and forward-thinking leadership.

Recipients of the W.D. Farr Scholarship join a distinguished group of scholars recognized for their ability to contribute meaningfully to agriculture at a national level. The award not only provides significant financial assistance but also serves as an acknowledgment of the recipient’s potential to influence agricultural policy, production practices, research, or industry leadership in ways that reflect W.D. Farr’s enduring impact.
