The Early Childhood Educators Scholarship Program, established by the Massachusetts Legislature, aims to enhance the credentials and qualifications of the early education and care workforce. This scholarship provides financial assistance to individuals currently employed or aspiring to work in early childhood education, including center-based, family child care, out-of-school time, and residential programs licensed or funded by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC).

Eligible applicants can receive financial support for tuition, books, and related expenses to pursue higher education degrees or certificates in fields such as Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Family Studies, Child Care Administration, and other areas directly related to early child development. The program supports enrollment in certificate, associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree programs at approved institutions in Massachusetts.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Applicants must be permanent legal residents of Massachusetts.
  • Must be U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens under Title IV regulations.
  • Employed for at least six months as an educator or provider in an early education and care program licensed or authorized by EEC, working a minimum of 20 hours per week, and must continue employment in this field while pursuing their studies.
  • Enrolled as a matriculated student in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Family Studies, Child Care Administration, or related fields at an eligible institution in Massachusetts.
  • Must have a current FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) on file.
  • Cannot be in default on federal or state student loans or owe a refund for previous financial aid received.
  • Sign an agreement to remain employed in early childhood education in Massachusetts upon completing the degree requirement.
