Information and Eligibility:

American Atheists offers scholarships to recognize and support atheist students who actively engage in advocacy within their communities and schools. The scholarships are open to:

  • Current college or vocational students
  • High school students entering college in the upcoming year
  • Full-time graduate and law school students

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Atheist Identity: Applicants must identify as atheists.
  • Academic Performance: A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher is required.
  • Institutional Affiliation: Applicants must attend or plan to attend U.S.-based institutions; U.S. citizenship is not required.
  • Activism Engagement: Active involvement in atheist advocacy, such as organizing events, participating in campaigns, or contributing to publications, is essential.

Applicants are encouraged to provide evidence of their activism, including:

  • Photos from events
  • Published letters or articles
  • Correspondence with policymakers
  • Testimonials from community members
  • Links to blogs, podcasts, or other media
  • Personal essays detailing their activism

Deadline: Applications are typically due by May 31 each year. Please check the American Atheists website for the most current information.
